Privacy & Confidentiality

All information disclosed within therapy sessions is confidential. Exceptions include disclosed or suspected child, elder, or dependent adult abuse and any situation where a client threatens violence to an identifiable victim or to the self which must be reported under the law. Therapists are also required by law to report individuals who communicate a serious threat of physical violence against a reasonably identifiable victim, or who pose a clear and imminent risk of serious physical injury to himself, herself, or another person, or who demonstrate threatening physical or verbal behavior, such as violent, suicidal, or assaultive threats, actions, or other behavior. Such persons include those who are mentally disabled, or who have been admitted to an inpatient mental health facility within the last five years or are determined to be a “clear and present danger” to themselves or others.
